{"id":737,"date":"2020-01-24T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-24T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grzesina.net\/meditation\/?p=737"},"modified":"2020-01-24T00:28:12","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T06:28:12","slug":"january-24-that-which-the-mind-frequently-dwells-and-ponders-upon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grzesina.net\/meditation\/january-24-that-which-the-mind-frequently-dwells-and-ponders-upon\/","title":{"rendered":"January 24 &#8211; That which the mind frequently dwells and ponders upon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear Friends,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuing with Sally Armstrong&#8217;s talk, &#8220;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Facets of Equanimity (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/sr.dharmaseed.org\/teacher\/153\/talk\/50057\/\" target=\"_blank\">Facets of Equanimity<\/a>,&#8221; continuing this exploration of equanimity as an expression of wisdom, and in particular into the notion of karma (kamma).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Sally and Kamala have mentioned this teaching from the Buddha:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Whatever one frequently thinks and ponders upon, that will become an inclination of the mind.<\/p><cite>~ Two Kinds of Thought &#8211; MN 19<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Sally adds, &#8220;If we act out of anger, if we have frequent thoughts of anger, it&#8217;s likely we&#8217;ll experience anger, and more likely that we&#8217;ll get anger back. If we have thoughts of kindness, act out of kindness, it&#8217;s much more likely that we&#8217;ll get kindness back.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Reflection<\/em>: Jack Kornfield has an article that discusses ways we can let go of unhealthy thoughts and open to healthy thoughts. He concludes the piece with this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>With the letting go of unhealthy thoughts, there arises a space, a calm, an opening to add healthy thoughts of love and self-respect. With all the dignity, courage and tenderness you possess, say from your heart phrases of loving-kindness such as: &#8220;May I be filled with compassion for myself and others. May I hold myself with care and respect. May I treasure my life.
