{"id":332,"date":"2018-01-08T04:00:37","date_gmt":"2018-01-08T10:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grzesina.net\/meditation\/?p=332"},"modified":"2021-01-17T20:56:41","modified_gmt":"2021-01-18T02:56:41","slug":"2018-01-08-the-ruby-inside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grzesina.net\/meditation\/2018-01-08-the-ruby-inside\/","title":{"rendered":"January 8 &#8211; The ruby inside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Friends,<\/p>\n<p>A poem by Kabir:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The small ruby everyone wants has fallen out on the road.<br \/>\nSome think it is east of us, others west of us.<br \/>\nSome say, &#8220;among primitive earth rocks,&#8221; others, &#8220;in the deep waters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kabir&#8217;s instinct told him it was inside, and what it was worth,<br \/>\nAnd he wrapped it up carefully in his heart cloth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kabir suggests that the treasure we seek is inside, so part of our practice is paying attention to the body.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>The Four Foundations of Mindfulness in Plain English<\/em>, Bhante Gunaratana starts chapter 4 by reviewing the contemplation of body parts.\u00a0The body is an amazing thing. National Geographic has a neat reference on <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201220143630\/https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/science\/health-and-human-body\/human-body\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Human Body<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional meditation practice on body parts contemplates 32 parts. The\u00a0Insight Meditation South Bay has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imsb.org\/contemplating-the-32-parts-of-the-body\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">description of this practice<\/a>.
